Battery Cell Engineer II, Modeling

Job Description

Rivian is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic entry-level Cell Modeling Engineer to develop and validate performance models of electrochemical cells for battery system and control design.

Requirements

• Lithium-ion battery modeling experience
• Basic understanding of electrochemistry, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena
• Familiarity with numerical modeling and optimization techniques
• Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, and Simulink
• Experience with simulation software (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS)
• Strong data analysis skills and statistical methods

Responsibilities

• Develop cell performance models including equivalent circuit models and reduced order electrochemical-thermal models
• Analyze test data and develop simplified models to mimic various aging/performance data sets
• Develop innovative numerical techniques to improve speed and accuracy of models
• Work with battery systems and software engineers to integrate models in SOC, SOH, SOP algorithms
• Collaborate with thermal modeling engineers to integrate battery thermal behavior and support improvements in the battery thermal management system
• Decompose vehicle level requirements to cell level requirements
