Staff Motor Controls Algorithm Engineer

Job Description

Rivian is seeking a Staff Engineer to lead and contribute to the development and verification of motor controls algorithms and their performance via cloud big data for the Electric Power Conversion team.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with dissertation research in advanced motor controls algorithm design
• 5+ years of experience in algorithm design and testing in EV industry or equivalent experience
• Expertise in AC electric machine drive theory, three-phase switching power converter topologies, and digital control algorithms
• Proficiency in Model-based design using Matlab/Simulink, C, C++, Python, SQL, and modern data stack tools
• Strong hands-on experience in high voltage/power/speed laboratory/vehicle environment and with software testing platforms including HIL tests and unit tests

Responsibilities

• Develop advanced motor control algorithms and calibrations for high power electric drive system
• Lead requirement definition of advanced motor controls and cross-functional vehicle level features
• Contribute to developing big data analytical tools for advanced motor control features
• Plan and perform algorithm testing in HIL, high-voltage dynamometer, and vehicle test environment
• Submit patents and trade secrets to advance Rivian Intellectual Property portfolio in the field of propulsion drive controls
