Opto-Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

Design and analysis of optical systems, including opto-mechanical mounting, in a cross-functional team environment. Oversee fabrication, operation, and repair of mechanical or electro-mechanical products and systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience in mechanical systems design and development using at least one standard commercial CAD software package
• Experience in design of opto-mechanical systems and optics mounting
• Experience in applied research and product development of optics or photonic systems

Responsibilities

• Perform tolerance analysis of designs at the system and subsystem level
• Conduct system level integration and validation of designs
• Drive full documentation of mechanical design including BOM, drawings, and procedures
• Support evaluation and characterization of optical components and system integrations
• Collaborate with the cross-functional team to explore concepts and drive optical system development
• Drive supplier choice, interaction, and management in order to deliver prototypes
• Alignment of laser and/or optical systems. Measure laser properties and optical performance
• Development of test procedures and test stations
• Support optical and system engineering leads with the opto-mechanical system design
