Principal Applied Scientist

Job Description

Microsoft is looking for a Principal Applied Scientist for the Microsoft Teams Calling, Meeting & Devices group to collaborate on delivering next-generation innovations and experiences leveraging engineering foundation models.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience OR Master's Degree in relevant field AND 4+ years related experience OR Doctorate in relevant field AND 3+ years related experience OR equivalent experience
• 4+ years of experience in software development with a focus on AI Applications
• Experience in applied science experiments, creating and validating metrics, working with ML pipeline and modeling algorithms in Large Language Models, Natural Language Processing, Information Retrieval, and Machine Learning
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements
• Master's Degree in relevant field AND 9+ years related experience OR Doctorate in relevant field AND 6+ years related experience OR equivalent experience
• 5+ years experience creating publications, 2+ years experience presenting at conferences
• Experience with commercial product development and a focus on user experiences

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, validate, and ship AI-powered features for Microsoft Teams
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and success criteria
• Maintain and improve system performance, reliability, and scalability of AI-powered features
• Participate in code reviews, debugging, telemetry reviews, and continuous delivery processes
• Champion a culture of scientific rigor, ethical AI, and innovation
• Communicate scientific findings and technical designs clearly to leadership
• Drive exploration of hybrid AI experiences for responsiveness, privacy, and enterprise value
