Principal Software Engineer

Job Description

Principal Software Engineer role on the Azure Boost Non-Volatile Memory Express solid-state drive (NVMe SSD) team at Azure Core, Microsoft. Opportunity to lead design and implementation of advanced engineering solutions to improve storage performance, enhance platform reliability, and reduce cost at cloud scale.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, or Rust OR equivalent experience
• 4+ years of experience developing cloud scale production software
• 4+ years of experience with storage, NVMe, PCIe with system design, algorithmic and problem-solving skills
• Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements

Responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of next gen Azure Boost SSDs for higher performance, availability and improved COGS
• Lead and mentor team to develop speeds and feeds into next gen PCIe and Silicon platform
• Partners with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of scenarios
• Leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform
• Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products
• Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers, working on-call to monitor system for degradation, downtime, or interruptions
• Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products
