Mechanical Design Engineer, New Programs Engineering

Job Description

The New Programs Engineering team at Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to work on the front-end of vehicle design and development, focusing on creating prototypes for engineering development of future generation vehicles.

Requirements

• Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• A minimum of 2 years of experience in a product development environment
• Hands-on experience in designing and building electro-mechanical systems
• Broad knowledge of rapid prototyping methodologies and techniques for metals, polymers, and other materials
• Capability to parametrically use 3D CAD software, an understanding of engineering fundamentals, and capability to run FEA
• Effective handling of multiple priorities, organizing workloads, and meeting tight delivery timelines
• Detail-oriented personality with effective documentation and reporting
• Excellent communicator, resourceful, and mindful of time management

Responsibilities

• Support vehicle engineers, engineering technicians, and prototype fabricators in defining prototype manufacturing strategies and key design criteria
• Brainstorm and collaborate with engineers, designers, and users in creating new solutions for automotive applications
• Rapidly design and manufacture limited volume prototype vehicles with tight timelines
• Own vehicle subsystems for concept prototype and mule builds, taking designs from idea through integrated 3D design, fabrication, assembly, and testing
