Opto-Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Meta is seeking an experienced eyepiece module Opto-ME to join their team working on the design and development of smart glasses and AR glasses.

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, or related field
7+ years of experience in complex opto-mechanical system design and analysis, development, and optimization
In-depth understanding of mechanical design related to optical performance, precision engineering, and manufacturing process
Experience with CAD design tools such as NX, SolidWorks, Creo, or similar
Knowledge of GD&T standards, dimensional metrology, statistics, Gauge R&R, and their application to process and design controls in high volume manufacturing
Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze complex systems and identify innovative solutions
Working knowledge of optical principles, optical components, and industry-standard optical design and testing tools
Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams

Design, develop, and optimize smart glasses or AR glasses eyepiece components
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration and optimal performance of the display system
Develop and maintain detailed design documentation including CAD models, drawings, and specifications
Guide mechanical simulation, structural risk assessment, and design optimization of the display system
Conduct design reviews, tolerance analysis, verification, and validation to ensure design meets requirements
Drive activities supporting product scalability in collaboration with process, manufacturing, and REL teams
Apply engineering expertise in opto-mechanics, precision manufacturing, metrology, and tooling design to drive vendors for design improvement
