Mechanical Design Engineer, Fasteners

Job Description

The job involves managing mechanical joining technologies and related equipment, new product introductions, joint design, and optimization for Tesla products.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical, Materials Engineering or equivalent experience
• Exceptional understanding of the interactions between torque, clamp load, friction
• Experience in fastener engineering or related field
• Experience developing torque values based on design requirements
• Experience with 2D and 3D design (Catia V5 Preferred)
• Experience on fastener/joint tests, including destructive and non-destructive tests like clamp load, torque, joint slip test
• Experience with GD&T and quality control

Responsibilities

• Work with design groups for designing joints and torque/load calculations
• Create, design, validate, and analyze each joint on Tesla products
• Lead and assist production in quality and process related torque/clamp load topics and issues
• Implement correct torque values for in-house and Tier assembled joints
• Work with Joining/Fastener Laboratory to prioritize, execute, and report joint tests
• Manage joint verification process and improve Joint Calculator
• Ensure correct torque value implementation for both in-house and Tier assembled joints
