Tooling Engineer, Castings

Job Description

The Tooling Engineer position at Tesla involves leading all tooling engineering activities for assigned part numbers and related components in the Fremont Castings department, managing die build projects, and overseeing ECO implementation projects.

Requirements

• Degree in Engineering or equivalent experience
• Related experience in the High-Pressure Die-castings in the automotive industry
• Proficient in Die Design with experience in gating and thermal design
• Proficient in 2D and GD&T
• Experience with 3D modeling with proficiency in CATIA V5
• Experience with flow simulation software
• Knowledge in lean manufacturing
• Strong project management skills

Responsibilities

• Engineering of Cast and Trim dies for assigned High Pressure Die-cast components
• Manage die suppliers and projects within time and budget constraints
• Lead die builds, design approvals, and die buy offs
• Process development of new dies until production process parameters are established
• Create process documentation and work instructions for new dies/inserts
• Collaborate in DFM process with Tesla product design team
• Optimize tooling performance using surface coatings and materials
• Perform dimensional analysis and implement corrective actions
