Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Aerodynamic Prototypes, New Program Engineering

Job Description

The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer role within the Aerodynamic Prototype team at Tesla involves leading the design, build & testing of physical models in coordination with the Aerodynamics Engineering team, with a focus on vehicle aerodynamic optimization.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with minimum of 5 years of equivalent experience in a product development environment
• Proficiency in CAD software and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
• Experience with aerodynamic measurement systems and wind tunnel testing
• Willingness to travel 10% of working days to support on track & tunnel testing

Responsibilities

• Lead the design & create build plans for wind tunnel models
• Perform hand calculations & FEA for mechanical design decisions
• Work with engineers, suppliers, model makers & fabricators to create high fidelity wind tunnel models
• Mentor team members and support through technical design reviews
