Internship, Embedded Software Engineer Body Controls, Vehicle Firmware (Winter/Spring 2026)

Job Description

Tesla is offering an internship opportunity for students to work on firmware, sensing, and controls of mechatronics systems in Tesla vehicles. The intern will work closely with the Body Controls Firmware Team to design and implement embedded subsystems.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field of study with a graduation date between May 2026 – May 2027
• Proficiency in C, familiarity with MISRA C a plus
• Fluent in software fundamentals including software design and maintainability
• Experience with embedded microprocessor tools
• Controls software and algorithm development a plus
• Ability to collaborate and communicate complex technical concepts

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality C code in a real-time embedded environment
• Specify, design, and implement functionality and behaviors of embedded subsystems
• Design the software architecture and firmware implementation on hardware through integration, testing and high-volume manufacturing
• Hands-on hardware bring-up, system debugging and code optimization
• Writing component level tests to ensure proper functionality
• Make performance and optimization trade-offs to meet product requirements
