Staff Opto Mechanical Design Engineer

Job Description

Join the Camera Hardware Engineering team at Tesla as an Opto-Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing and integrating precision mechanical systems for imaging lens applications.

Requirements

• Strong background in Opto-mechanical design
• Deep understanding of structural/thermal/optical (STOP) analysis
• In-depth knowledge of material properties such as plastics, metal, adhesive, glass etc.
• Working knowledge of lens design and stray light analysis for high-volume manufacturing
• Experience in optical design such as Zemax, Code V etc.
• Experience with data analysis tools like JMP, MATLAB/Python and Six Sigma is a plus

Responsibilities

• Create detailed mechanical designs for mounts, barrels, spacers and adhesives for imaging lenses
• Perform structural, thermal and vibration analyses using FEA tools
• Develop tolerance budgets and sensitivity analyses for optical systems
• Athermalize lenses for operation under various temperatures
• Drive DFM reviews with vendors and oversee prototype fabrication and testing of opto-mechanical systems
• Conduct failure analysis for development, validation, and production issues
