Mechanical Design Engineer, Battery Structures Design

Job Description

Seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join the Structural Design team within the Battery Engineering organization in Palo Alto, CA, focusing on enhancing designs for current Tesla vehicles and defining structural designs for future models.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• Strong engineering fundamentals in materials and mechanics
• Experience in CAD modeling, preferably with CATIA V5/3DX
• Prior experience in a relevant engineering field, ideally in high-volume manufacturing
• Proficiency in 3D design and GD&T drawings for complex parts and assemblies

Responsibilities

• Improve designs for existing vehicles and define structural designs for future Tesla models
• Integrate vehicle and battery cell systems to optimize performance
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineering teams to develop new processes and materials
• Conduct on-site component and system-level testing to support design updates
• Collaborate with manufacturing, process, and quality teams to address yield barriers and scrap issues
• Own product improvements focused on cost reduction and complexity simplification
