Sr. Cell Abuse Test Engineer

Job Description

The Engineer position at Tesla involves performing battery cell abuse testing across various programs such as vehicle and energy storage. The role includes planning, executing, and interpreting results of tests related to electrical, thermal, and mechanical abuse.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent experience
• 2+ years' experience in physically-applied engineering
• Hands-on experience in assembly, fabrication/modification, instrumentation, wiring, electrical troubleshooting
• Ability to work in cross-functional groups and lead alongside Technicians
• Statistical background and CAD experience are pluses
• Programming experience in Matlab strongly preferred, Labview knowledge is a plus
• Experience with instrumentation/data acquisition, National Instruments preferred
• Able to plan and schedule multiple activities in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with internal Tesla teams and cell suppliers for cell designs and plan builds
• Determine test plans for each program phase based on risks and schedule
• Schedule tests, prioritize, and participate in testing to understand test rigs and cell behaviors
• Improve throughput and data quality, troubleshoot test rigs, and process test results
• Maintain standard operating procedures for test equipment and study variation in results
• Share reports with technical teams, suppliers, and executives
