Electrical Test Engineer, Abuse Test & Engineering

Job Description

The Engineer will be responsible for testing electrically abusive scenarios for power electronics and battery systems in the Abuse Testing & Engineering group at Tesla.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Applied Physics Engineering or equivalent experience
• 3+ years’ experience in physically applied engineering
• Must be hands-on with wiring, prototyping, troubleshooting, instrumentation
• Able to plan many concurrent activities in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

• Engage electronics and battery pack teams to understand and prioritize test needs
• Create and execute tests for various scenarios such as FET shoot-through, overvoltage, overcurrent, arc flash, and more
• Develop sub-pack-scale tests to study novel failure modes
• Develop new test equipment when needed
• Anticipate and mitigate test execution hazards
• Share results and maintain documentation for reference
• Recreate field incidents and propose countermeasures
