Manufacturing Controls Development Engineer, Megapack

Job Description

Tesla is seeking a motivated controls engineer to develop manufacturing lines for the new Megafactory in Austin, Texas, focusing on Megapack battery modules and general assembly.

Requirements

• Programming proficiency in PLC or industrial controllers (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff) using ladder logic and structured text
• Experience programming and setting up industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA)
• Electrical schematic design using ePLAN or AutoCAD
• Experience in a manufacturing setting
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting and fixing electro-mechanical devices
• Familiarity with common hand tools and diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters)
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Technology, similar degree, or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Design and launch manufacturing equipment for new products being mass-produced for the first time
• Develop next generation controls systems merging traditional PLC logic with modern software stack
• Perform hands-on work with full-scale production equipment, from initial commissioning to mass production and ramp
• Contribute to Tesla’s hardware and software standards for future equipment development
• Lead machine suppliers to successful project delivery
• Extensive travel to Brookshire, TX and other Tesla facilities
