Sr. Cell Electrochemical Modeling Engineer

Job Description

Join the Cell Modeling team at Tesla to develop and maintain electrochemical physics-based models of lithium-ion cells for various programs.

Requirements

• Degree in Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of experience in electrochemical system modeling or general transport-reaction processes
• Deep understanding of physical parameters of cell design and mathematical model behaviors
• Knowledge of state-of-the-art modeling techniques for lithium-ion electrode chemistries
• Experience numerically solving PDEs and ODEs
• Programming and data visualization skills (e.g., Python or MATLAB)
• Knowledge of degradation mechanisms in lithium-ion batteries
• Familiarity with MySQL is a plus

Responsibilities

• Optimize model parameters to predict empirical battery data
• Write test plans, propose design of experiments, and summarize results
• Use data manipulation and visualization to convey model and test results
• Interact with cross-functional teams to determine cell chemistry and design
• Translate aging mechanisms into mathematical representations
• Document and communicate model workflow and results
