Sr. Materials Failure Analysis Engineer

Job Description

Rivian is seeking a Materials Engineer to join their Failure Analysis and Materials Engineering team. The role involves conducting materials testing, developing material testing specifications, and managing lab work requests.

Requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical Testing and Failure Analysis
• Solid background in mechanical properties and failure analysis of engineering materials including Aluminum, Steel, and Polymer Composites
• Experience in material characterization and post mortem analysis
• Skills in Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and design of custom testing fixtures using 3D CAD software
• Proficiency with materials characterization tools such as SEM, XRF, DSC, TGA, etc.
• Experience in leading complex failure analysis projects and presenting technical reports

Responsibilities

• Perform various materials testing and validation across Rivian shops
• Communicate effectively with engineers, designers, and manufacturing teams
• Establish test parameters, design testing samples, and analyze fixture designs
• Draft drawings for fixtures and test specimens
• Write, update, and maintain materials testing specifications
• Process and analyze testing data, and produce clear reports
• Manage work requests within the LIMS system and set priorities for the lab team
• Build and maintain a material property database
• Oversee equipment maintenance and calibration
