Job Description

Tesla is seeking an experienced Quality Engineer to oversee the manufacturing of Body in White (BIW) structures, ensuring high standards of safety, reliability, and quality in welding processes. The role emphasizes a 'built right first time' mindset and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Materials or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a manufacturing environment and Quality Engineering function, with emphasis on automotive or metal fabrication
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with BIW assemblies, welding processes (spot welding, MIG welding), or sheet metal manufacturing preferred
  • Quality Engineering expertise including ASQ certification preferred
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills and expertise utilizing methodologies such as 8D, Lean Six Sigma, and Shainin
  • Specific training and understanding in Automotive Core Tools and relevant methods and tools
  • Strong background in analyzing and interpreting large data sets, including data mining and statistical software expertise
  • Understanding of Quality Management standards such as ISO 9001 and IATF 16949
  • Broad technical expertise to work with cross-functional teams, particularly in BIW welding technologies

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the quality of incoming components and quality controls in the BIW production process
  • Solve complex technical challenges impacting customers by leading problem-solving processes
  • Lead cross-functional teams to improve product quality and customer satisfaction
  • Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning for new vehicle programs
  • Drive Design & Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA) to identify risks in BIW welding processes
  • Identify and deploy critical manufacturing requirements for BIW
  • Develop, validate, implement, and improve effective quality controls across BIW production lines
  • Participate in program and design change management reviews for subsystem quality
  • Assist in dimensional analysis and process capability analyses
