Job Description

The Quality Engineer at Tesla will support the production of high-quality products by improving process and product quality. This role requires a problem-solver with a strong quality and customer-focused mindset, dedicated to continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical or Industrial engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)
  • Specific training in quality problem-solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc.
  • Experience with a variety of measurement and inspection techniques
  • Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (5% to 10%)
  • Knowledge of functionality, GD&T, assembly processes, and testing at system and component levels of drive units
  • Working knowledge of electric drive units, gearbox/transmission designs, and associated components
  • Working knowledge of gear manufacturing quality equipment and heat treat quality lab equipment
  • Ability to read and interpret CMM reports, gear charts, heat treat specs, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements
  • Establish and maintain quality performance metrics
  • Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System
  • Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and DVAs
  • Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards
  • Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area; follow daily housekeeping and 5S standards
  • Promote and maintain a culture of continuous improvement
