Job Description

The Quality Engineer at Tesla will support the production of high-quality products by improving process and product quality. This role requires a problem-solver with a strong quality and customer-focused mindset, dedicated to continuous improvement in a manufacturing environment.

Requirements

Degree in Mechanical or Industrial engineering, or equivalent experience
Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)
Specific training in quality problem-solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc.
Experience with a variety of measurement and inspection techniques
Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (5% to 10%)
Knowledge of functionality, GD&T, assembly processes, and testing at system and component levels of drive units
Working knowledge of electric drive units, gearbox/transmission designs, and associated components
Working knowledge of gear manufacturing quality equipment and heat treat quality lab equipment
Ability to read and interpret CMM reports, gear charts, heat treat specs, etc.

Responsibilities

Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements
Establish and maintain quality performance metrics
Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System
Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and DVAs
Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards
Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials
Maintain a clean and organized work area; follow daily housekeeping and 5S standards
Promote and maintain a culture of continuous improvement
