Job Description

As a Geothermal Engineer at Jacobs, you will focus on the characterization of geothermal and geoexchange energy systems, particularly in North America. Your role involves providing advisory on geothermal resources for heating and cooling projects, collaborating with various engineering teams, and performing complex analyses related to geothermal energy systems.

Requirements

  • Relevant master's degree and 2 or more years of experience, or relevant bachelor’s degree and 4 or more years of experience
  • Hands-on industry experience with geothermal development
  • Experience with transient and complex systems simulation programs or languages such as TRNSYS, Simulink, and Modelica
  • Experience with geospatial software such as Arc and/or QGIS
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct complex quantitative analysis
  • Ability to solve novel, multi-dimensional problems
  • Experience in district energy analysis, data processing, sensitivity analysis, modeling, and interpretation
  • Effective communication skills in both writing and speaking
  • Ability to disseminate results through conference appearances and publications
  • Clarity in writing for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Knowledge of current issues affecting geothermal power and distributed geothermal applications

Responsibilities

  • Design of hybrid geothermal, geoexchange, and low-emissions energy systems
  • Mentor junior staff in design, implementation, and reporting
  • Analyze data related to aquifer exploitation, thermal demand mapping, and mechanical systems
  • Formulate retrofit strategies and contractor engagement procedures for thermal energy systems
  • Nurture existing customer relationships and ensure integrity of work
  • Develop in-house tools and models that distinguish Jacobs from typical consultancies
  • Write technical sections for funding applications
  • Support new business acquisition in low- and no-emission thermal energy network development
  • Foster collaborative teamwork among global teams
