Amazon is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead cross-functional projects and drive technical architecture and engineering practices. The role requires expertise in large-scale distributed systems and offers the opportunity to work on a variety of technologies that impact customers globally.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Knowledge of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms
  • Deep hands-on technical expertise in at least one major technical area: large scale full stack development, building complex distributed systems, designing massive global networks

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical leader on our most demanding, cross-functional projects
  • Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions
  • Fully and completely understand system inter-dependencies and limitations
  • Possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices
  • Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the community on advanced technical issues
  • Exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness
  • Balance technical leadership and savvy with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology choices

Benefits

  • Employees at Amazon are often offered comprehensive health benefits—including multiple medical plan options (no pre-existing condition exclusions, 100% covered in-network preventive care), dental and vision plans, a 24/7 medical advice line from day one, expert second-opinion services, and broad mental-health support with several free counseling sessions (including pediatric). Financial wellness typically includes a 401(k) with company match (up to 2%), Restricted Stock Units (equity), FSAs, an emergency savings program, product and partner discounts, and even college-savings and home-purchase programs. Overall, the package is designed to support employees and their families’ health, finances, and day-to-day life.
