Job Description

Tesla is looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with expertise in HVAC and Process Piping to join their mechanical design team in Fremont, CA. The role involves delivering scalable and code-compliant mechanical systems that support Tesla's innovative projects across various sectors, including Autopilot and Energy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in HVAC or Process Systems design
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Handbooks / Standards, SMACNA Standards
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical systems including Dehumidification Units, Air Scrubbers, Heat Exchangers, and more
  • Professional design experience in various project types including industrial cooling tower systems and biotech/pharmaceutical
  • Familiarity with International Codes Council (ICC) and California specific Title 24 codes
  • Excellent communication skills for team collaboration
  • Proficient with HVAC load calculation software and design tools like Revit and AutoCAD
  • Construction administration experience including site observation and review of RFIs
  • Willingness to travel for infrastructure development
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineering in training (EIT) certification

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering fundamentals to solve technical problems and create detailed designs
  • Develop detailed specifications and design packages for HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, construction, and facilities stakeholders to meet end-user needs
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Work independently and creatively resolve design issues
  • Perform capacity and risk analysis for large capital infrastructure
  • Create flexible designs that can adapt to evolving criteria
  • Synthesize technical information into presentations for leadership
  • Influence various teams without direct reporting structure
