Job Description
Microsoft Research New England is offering a summer Research Internship for advanced PhD students focusing on sociotechnical perspectives to analyze critical issues related to technology. Interns will collaborate with social scientists to study the dynamics shaping technologies and their societal impacts, with a focus on topics like generative AI, digital labor, and responsible technology design.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled in a PhD program.
- Advanced to candidacy (or the equivalent) in their PhD program by the time they start their internship (approximately May 2026).
- Proficiency in social scientific, empirical, or critical foundation – methodologically, analytically, and theoretically.
- Interest in social scientific questions related to algorithmic, computational, or data-driven technologies and societies or cultures.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with fellow doctoral candidates and researchers.
- Present findings and contribute to the research community.
- Engage in a 12-week research project with an eye towards a single publication.
