Job Description

The Software Engineering Manager for Google Photos will lead a team in developing and optimizing the Google Photos Android app, focusing on infrastructure and innovative media experiences. This role requires both technical expertise in software development and strong leadership skills to manage project goals and team growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development (e.g., Java, Kotlin).
  • 3 years of experience with Android application development.
  • 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role.
  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field (preferred).
  • Experience working with video and special formats (e.g., HDR/Live Photos/Motion Photos).
  • Experience with mobile application development, Android (iOS).
  • Experience with Android CameraX.
  • Android Media3 experience, especially in video playback and video composition.
  • Expertise with color science as it relates to digital photography and video.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build infrastructure and features in the Google Photos Android app.
  • Collaborate with Program Manager (PM), UX, Quality Assurance (QA), back-end, and other client engineers.
  • Develop and drive the engineering execution plan for new initiatives and long-running projects.
  • Manage a team and advocate for their growth and success.
  • Synthesize and explain complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
