Job Description

Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled Resident Engineer to support a major Transit Authority in delivering complex capital construction projects. This client-facing role involves providing expert oversight of construction activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and alignment with project goals.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (PE license preferred)
10+ years of engineering or construction management experience, with at least 5 years in transit, rail, or heavy civil infrastructure
Strong technical knowledge of transit systems, including stations, trackwork, structures, utilities, signals, communications, or related disciplines

Responsibilities

Represent the consulting firm and the Transit Authority as the on-site engineering lead for assigned construction projects
Provide daily oversight of contractor activities, including monitoring progress, verifying quality, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental protocols
Lead field engineering tasks such as reviewing submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and technical clarifications
Collaborate closely with transit operations, maintenance, safety teams, and external partners
Conduct regular site inspections and prepare detailed documentation
Supervise and mentor field inspection staff
Review contractor schedules, track progress against milestones, and support schedule analysis and recovery strategies
Evaluate change order requests and assist with cost and schedule impact assessments
Facilitate construction meetings and maintain organized project records
Support testing, commissioning, and turnover activities
Uphold all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
