Job Description

Arcadis is seeking a highly skilled Resident Engineer to support a major Transit Authority in delivering complex capital construction projects. This client-facing role involves providing expert oversight of construction activities, ensuring safety, efficiency, and alignment with project goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (PE license preferred)
  • 10+ years of engineering or construction management experience, with at least 5 years in transit, rail, or heavy civil infrastructure
  • Strong technical knowledge of transit systems, including stations, trackwork, structures, utilities, signals, communications, or related disciplines

Responsibilities

  • Represent the consulting firm and the Transit Authority as the on-site engineering lead for assigned construction projects
  • Provide daily oversight of contractor activities, including monitoring progress, verifying quality, and ensuring compliance with safety and environmental protocols
  • Lead field engineering tasks such as reviewing submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and technical clarifications
  • Collaborate closely with transit operations, maintenance, safety teams, and external partners
  • Conduct regular site inspections and prepare detailed documentation
  • Supervise and mentor field inspection staff
  • Review contractor schedules, track progress against milestones, and support schedule analysis and recovery strategies
  • Evaluate change order requests and assist with cost and schedule impact assessments
  • Facilitate construction meetings and maintain organized project records
  • Support testing, commissioning, and turnover activities
  • Uphold all applicable federal, state, and local regulations
  • Champion a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement
