Requirements

  • M.S. / Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • 7 years (Ph.D) / 10 years (M.S.) of relevant industry experience in Structural Mechanics and electronic cooling solutions.
  • Solid understanding of theoretical and experimental structural mechanics.
  • Proficient with FEA solvers, preferably Abaqus and Optistruct.
  • Strong expertise with computational modeling and common CFD analysis tools.
  • Excellent understanding of failure modes in metals, plastics, and elastomers.
  • Proficient with using Python/Matlab for analysis and data processing.
  • Experience developing and leading multidisciplinary engineers.
  • Excellent communication skills across all functions and levels.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural and thermo-mechanical design risk assessments for low-voltage electronics assemblies.
  • Conduct multi-scale numerical simulations on electronics assemblies to meet performance and reliability targets.
  • Lead thermal/structural strategy and perform numerical simulations for design challenges.
  • Define vehicle thermal targets and partner with thermal attributes for components.
  • Develop electronic cooling and packaging solutions for vehicle architectures.
  • Optimize thermal and mechanical components by minimizing mass, cost, and material usage.
  • Provide detailed design suggestions for thermal stack-up, cooling layout, and material selection.
  • Develop material characterization plans and maintain the simulation material database.
  • Provide simulation support for root-cause analysis during testing and validation.
  • Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams to ensure product and engineering excellence.

Benefits

  • Employees at Rivian are often offered comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) with company match, ESPP and potential RSU grants, performance bonuses, and generous time off including paid parental and sick leave. Perks can include 24/7 mental-health coaching and therapy, Hinge Health for Anthem enrollees, tuition assistance and professional development, plus on-site food and a wide range of employee discounts on items like computers, mobile phones, home loans, and pet care.
