Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or equivalent experience
  • Strong background in solid mechanics, especially in elasticity, plasticity, plate and shell, and fracture mechanics
  • Strong background in finite element theory and material constitutive models
  • Experience in Finite Element model generation, development, execution, and validation (Abaqus, LS-DYNA, or equivalent)
  • Data analysis skills in a scripting language (Python, MATLAB, or equivalent)
  • Experience in test development, execution, and analysis
  • Experience in material characterization and modeling
  • Knowledge of battery cell mechanics
  • Some experience in solving multi-physics models in the mechanical engineering discipline is preferred
  • Strong communication skills and a preference for working in teams

Responsibilities

  • Advance the capabilities of Tesla’s cell mechanical models
  • Develop 3D cell models to capture the fundamental physics
  • Propose appropriate cell test plans and perform model validations using experimental test data
  • Enhance the accuracy of Tesla’s in-house and vendor cell models
  • Contribute to the automation of cell modeling workflow
  • Develop and perform component/cell-level mechanical tests and material characterizations
  • Interface with the cross-functional teams to determine ideal cell designs for different electric vehicle and energy product applications

Benefits

  • Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
