Job Description

Tesla is looking for a motivated controls engineer to develop manufacturing lines for the Gigafactory in Austin, Texas. The role involves designing and implementing new manufacturing lines for Megapack battery modules and general assembly, contributing to Tesla's transition to sustainable energy.

Requirements

  • Programming proficiency in PLC or industrial controllers (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff) using ladder logic and structured text
  • Experience programming and setting up industrial robots (e.g., Fanuc, KUKA)
  • Electrical schematic design using ePLAN or AutoCAD
  • Experience in a manufacturing setting
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and fixing electro-mechanical devices
  • Familiar with common hand tools and diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters)
  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and launch manufacturing equipment for new products being mass-produced for the first time
  • Develop next generation controls systems that merge traditional PLC logic with the benefits of a modern software stack
  • Perform hands-on work with full-scale production equipment, from initial commissioning to mass production and ramp
  • Contribute to Tesla’s hardware and software standards for future equipment development
  • Lead machine suppliers to successful project delivery
  • Collaborate on high-level machine and line designs decisions, lead supplier design reviews and factory acceptance testing
  • Coordinate across multiple internal teams to land a successful production line at any Tesla facility
  • Extensive travel to Brookshire, TX and other Tesla facilities
