The Worldwide Sustainability organization at Amazon is seeking an experienced science leader to drive innovations in sustainability measurement and planning across global operations. This role involves leading a multidisciplinary team to tackle complex sustainability challenges and develop robust measurement systems for environmental impacts.

Requirements

Master’s degree in science, Engineering, Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, or related field
15+ years of experience in environmental science, operations research, climate science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or related fields
5+ years leading and managing multidisciplinary science and engineering teams
Proven experience building forecasting, planning, optimization, and analytics models or systems
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with product and engineering teams
Strong project management and execution capabilities
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences, from technical teams to senior leadership

Responsibilities

Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team of scientists, economists, and engineers to deliver innovative sustainability solutions
Design and execute unified science strategies for measurement, forecasting, and planning across environmental impact areas (carbon, water, waste, biodiversity, circularity)
Develop integrated methodologies spanning key economic sectors (transportation, buildings, cloud computing, packaging, commodities, products/services)
Guide integration of diverse analytical approaches into measurement and forecasting systems, including AI/ML, simulation, optimization, and life cycle assessment
Own and oversee company-wide Sustainability Science Review processes to maintain methodological rigor and consistency
Partner with product, engineering, and business teams to translate science insights into operational improvements
Provide strategic guidance on emerging science standards, protocols, and data requirements
