Tesla is seeking an experienced Piping Stress Engineer to join their Infrastructure Engineering team. The role involves analyzing and designing piping systems to ensure safety and compliance with industry standards, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on large capital projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in piping stress engineering
- Proficiency in piping analysis software (CAESAR II) and design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Bluebeam)
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and associated software, FE-Pipe/NozzlePro
- In-depth knowledge of piping codes (ASME, API, MSS) and industry standards
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and troubleshoot issues in high-pressure, fast-paced environments
- Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable, but not required
Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive stress analysis of piping systems using software tools (e.g., CAESAR II) to evaluate thermal, seismic, wind, and operational loads
- Design and optimize piping layouts, supports, and restraints to mitigate stresses, vibrations, and potential failures
- Perform pipe flexibility analysis, including nozzle load evaluations and support design, ensuring adherence to codes such as ASME B31.3, API standards, and local regulations
- Review and approve piping isometrics, stress reports, and design drawings
- Collaborate with process, mechanical, and civil/structural teams to integrate designs
- Perform risk assessments, including fatigue analysis, dynamic simulations, and pressure vessel interactions
