Goldman Sachs is seeking a Consumer Analyst for its Small/SMID Team in Fundamental Equity. The role involves executing investment research in the consumer sector, focusing on companies with strong management and reasonable valuations, while collaborating with portfolio managers and mentoring junior team members.
Requirements
- 5-15 years of related experience within investment research at a financial services firm; preference given to investment management experience.
- Familiarity with and understanding of the unique nature of small cap investing within investment management and research.
- Intellectual curiosity around investment processes and outcomes.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative when opportunities present.
- Ability to organize an investment universe, and differentiate economic drivers around the consumer sector.
- Strong modeling, analytical and quantitative skills.
- Ability to prioritize and respond quickly to evolving workflow.
- Strong writing and communication skills, ability to translate these into organized approaches of persuasion.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Progress toward an MBA or CFA is attractive.
- Ability to multi-task and work well with teams.
- Comfortable taking initiative and demonstrating resourcefulness.
- Familiarity with vertically specific tools like Bloomberg or FactSet; Understanding of alternative data source usage in the investment process.
Responsibilities
- Executing the investment research process for the consumer sector, including new idea generation and maintenance research for existing holdings.
- Conducting valuation analysis (comps, DCF, IRR, Merger models, private market value) and writing investment briefs and presentations.
- Conducting company/industry due diligence and meeting with management teams and industry participants.
- Looking towards traditional and alternative forms of data collection, consumer behavior, and predictive approaches for investment outcomes.
- Partnering with portfolio managers to understand style differentiation, preferences, and direction of portfolio travel.
- Training, mentoring, and coaching younger team members across all economic sectors.
