Microsoft is seeking a Principal Applied Scientist for the Social Engineering Threat Research team, which focuses on understanding and mitigating human-targeted threats like phishing and scams. The role involves developing AI models and collaborating across teams to enhance security measures and customer experiences.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related experience
- OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience
- OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience
- 5+ years experience developing and deploying live production systems, as part of a product team
- 3+ years experience with processing large volumes of data in distributed environment (MapReduce, Spark, MPI, CUDA, etc)
- 1+ years experience with at least 1 statically typed object-oriented language (C, Java, C++, Fortran etc)
- Familiarity with software development tools such as GIT, automated build systems, and project tracking systems
- Proficiency in measuring the health and effectiveness of systems
Responsibilities
- Engage with stakeholders across our team and beyond to identify the most critical challenges worth solving
- Developing and supporting production AI models, heuristics, and production agentic workflows to detect social engineering attacks
