Job Description

Tesla Energy is seeking a Battery Design Team Lead to oversee the design of battery systems for products like Megapack and Powerwall. The role involves leading a team in a highly collaborative environment, focusing on innovative designs and ensuring product performance, reliability, and quality.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of product design experience and 3+ years of design leadership experience
  • Proficiency in CAD modeling, CATIA V5/6 a plus, and PLM/engineering change systems
  • Experience designing for high volume production
  • Proficiency in GD&T and development of high-quality drawing packages/manufacturing instructions
  • Strong engineering fundamentals in heat transfer, fluids, and structural mechanics
  • Understanding of material science of components used in mechanical design
  • Familiarity with design for reliability/FMEA concepts
  • Familiarity with battery cell manufacturing and design is preferred
  • Experience with obtaining compliance and certification to global standards
  • Detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills

Responsibilities

  • End-to-end ownership of the battery system designs for new and existing Tesla Energy products
  • Responsible for all battery design attributes and driving team and cross-functional execution
  • Lead detailed mechanical design and analysis, including thermal, structural, dynamic, electrical aspects
  • Build-to-print mechanical design component design ownership
  • Develop and lead execution of component and system design validation plans
  • Develop and maintain technology and process/workflow roadmaps
