Uber Eats is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to enhance core systems for Early User Growth initiatives. The role involves defining backend architecture and collaborating with cross-functional teams to create scalable solutions that support user engagement and growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or related field
- 7+ years of full-time Software Engineering experience
- Proven experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems in production
- Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data structures, and system design
- Experience designing scalable APIs, data models, and backend workflows
- Experience with microservice architectures
- Demonstrated technical leadership across multiple teams
- Proficiency in one or more backend languages such as Java, Go, Python, or C++
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and evolution of core backend systems powering Early User Growth initiatives
- Define and drive platform architecture, APIs, and shared services used across multiple teams
- Partner with Product, Design, and Data Science to deliver scalable solutions that enable rapid experimentation
- Own system reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability of Growth services
- Influence technical direction through design reviews, mentorship, and engineering best practices
- Improve experimentation velocity while maintaining high standards for operational excellence
