Job description
The Quality Engineer, General Assembly at Tesla will focus on enhancing the quality of electric vehicle production through continuous improvement of processes and products. The role requires strong problem-solving skills and a commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.
Requirements
- Quality systems experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred)
- Specific training and demonstrated success in applying quality problem solving methods such as fishbone diagrams, FMEA, process capability analysis, hypothesis testing, DoE, SPC, etc.
- Experience with a broad variety of measurement and inspection techniques
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally (5% to 10%)
- Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
- Experience in metrology and quality control, including gauge calibration and measurement system analysis (MSA)
- Experience in CAD software including AutoCAD, CATIA and/or SolidWorks
- Experience in process capability and statistical process control (SPC) using Minitab or JMP
- Experience in applying quality problem-solving methodologies, including 8D, fishbone diagrams, 5-Why analysis, hypothesis testing, green belt, black belt, and design of experiments (DOE)
- Experience in PPAP, FMEA, DFMEA, PFMEA, and Control Plans
Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional problem-solving teams to drive process and product improvements
- Use QA methodologies to manage and facilitate issue resolution including root cause investigations and the development, implementation and monitoring of effective corrective and preventive actions
- Establish and maintain quality performance metrics
- Develop and implement quality standards as part of the Tesla Quality System to assure products meet expectations of our target customers
- Support the development of product specifications and tolerances, design and process FMEAs and DVAs
- Establish and maintain control plans and inspection standards to assure critical features are controlled through the assembly/production processes
- Lead/facilitate review and disposition of discrepant materials identified for control of nonconforming product
- Maintain a clean and organized work area; follow daily housekeeping and 5S standards
- Promote and maintain a culture and attitude of continuous improvement
