Job description

Tesla's Supplier Industrialization team is seeking an experienced engineer to oversee component development and qualification activities at suppliers. The role involves collaboration with internal and external teams, critical decision-making, and travel to various supplier locations to ensure high-quality components are delivered on time for production processes.

Requirements

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience supporting Thermal Systems
  • Familiarity with various manufacturing processes like injection molding, brazing, machining, casting, forging, assembly, and end of line performance
  • Experience in Quality Systems a plus: PPAP/APQP processes
  • In-depth knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and inspection
  • Demonstrable leadership abilities
  • Ability to communicate and direct supplier activities at the management level
  • Proven results in meeting customer requirements and expectations
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Strong technical writing ability and familiarity with SPC and data analysis
  • Average of 30 - 40% travel, possibly on short notice

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct and conduct industrialization related activities within the supply chain team
  • Develop, manage, audit, improve and correct supplier planning and execution of component manufacturing and assembly techniques and quality control processes
  • Provide leadership for New Product Introduction (NPI) and supplier improvements
  • Facilitate communication and clarification of technical requirements between Suppliers and Tesla teams
  • Accountable for supplier audits to ensure performance, delivery, and reliability expectations
  • Collaborate with Tesla teams to determine ideal performance specifications and supplier metrics
  • Lead, track and improve supplier manufacturing process development and launch readiness
  • Guide suppliers in developing robust processes for high quality production
  • Validate supplier corrective actions to ensure robustness and sustainability
  • Provide input on new or alternative materials for improved design and manufacturability
