Job description
Tesla is seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Engineer to oversee industrial wastewater operations, ensuring environmental compliance and zero impact on production. The role involves leading a team, optimizing treatment processes, and managing chemical treatment programs across multiple sites.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Chemical, Civil Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience
- 10 years of experience in operations of industrial wastewater treatment facility
- Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting treatment systems in a manufacturing environment
- Experience leading or supervising technical teams
- Strong understanding of process controls, instrumentation, and SCADA systems
- Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certification (Grade IV or higher), or ability to attain within 6 months
- Familiarity with complex industrial waste streams and advanced treatment technologies
Responsibilities
- Lead the 24/7 operation of the industrial wastewater treatment plant in Fremont
- Monitor and optimize treatment processes (metals removal, pH adjustment, filtration, biological systems)
- Use SCADA, lab data, and field observations to proactively manage system performance
- Respond rapidly to upsets, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
- Oversee chemical treatment programs for cooling towers, closed loop systems and ASH houses in Fremont, 901 and Lathrop Sites
- Maintain full compliance with all environmental permits and regulations
- Own sampling, reporting, and documentation with zero tolerance for violations
- Lead site readiness for inspections and audits
- Lead collaboration with all Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for waste discharge operations
- Lead a high performing team, supervise, coach, and develop a team of technicians
