Job description
Tesla is seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead the technical direction for backend services related to Robotaxi and Charging. The role involves writing production code, mentoring engineers, and driving architectural decisions while optimizing systems for scalability and uptime.
Requirements
- 7+ years of software engineering experience, with 4+ years focused on backend distributed systems
- Demonstrated experience building and operating distributed systems in production
- Strong proficiency in Go; working familiarity with REST, Dotnet, gRPC, Kafka, SQL (MySQL), Docker, Kubernetes
- Experience shipping systems into real production environments
- Track record of technical leadership: setting architectural direction and mentoring engineers
- Strong product sense with the ability to understand user pain and domain constraints
- Experience with real-time or near-real-time systems
- An AI-forward mindset with a drive to incorporate AI-driven approaches into product development
Responsibilities
- Own the technical direction and design for backend services integrating with internal and external platforms
- Lead and grow a team of engineers: mentor on systems thinking and review technical approaches
- Write production code in Go
- Drive architectural decisions across the core services stack
- Identify opportunities to apply AI and machine learning to price optimization algorithms
