Job description
Tesla is looking for a motivated Test Engineer to enhance Manufacturing Test Equipment for the Megafactory Production Engineering team. The role involves optimizing test equipment for Megapack production lines, supporting debugging tasks, and driving continuous improvements in test and automation equipment.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of relevant industry experience in test equipment development and optimization
- Exposure to high-voltage systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, and battery systems
- Ability to read and understand software code (e.g., GoLang, Python, C, C++)
- Experience with communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, SPI
- Experience with Linux operating systems and familiarity with command line interface
- Knowledge of mechanical and electrical tools and hands-on experience
- Experience contributing to large codebases using git or other version control systems
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage competing priorities
- Willingness to support 24/7 operations as needed
Responsibilities
- Design mechanical and electrical hardware for test equipment for Battery Energy Storage System components
- Lead uptime, cycle time, and FPY improvements on manufacturing test equipment
- Collaborate with various engineering teams to ensure test equipment meets expectations
- Identify areas of risk and develop prototypes and test methods to mitigate risk
- Maintain and optimize production test software for operational efficiency
- Perform preemptive data analysis to understand challenges with manufacturing test equipment
- Work closely with product design teams to define optimized test specifications
- Support troubleshooting and validation efforts for sustained equipment performance
- Document all aspects of projects clearly and comprehensively
