Job description

Tesla is seeking a Software Engineer for the Fleet Management team, focusing on job scheduling, vehicle routing, and fleet orchestration algorithms primarily in Go. The role involves working on a distributed, event-driven system and collaborating with firmware engineers while exploring AI-driven optimization techniques.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of software engineering experience with strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, and systems design
  • Deep interest or experience in robotics, multi-agent systems, fleet management, logistics optimization, or operations research
  • Strong proficiency in Go; working familiarity with GraphQL, gRPC, NATS or Kafka, SQL (MySQL), Docker, and Kubernetes
  • Comfortable working with distributed systems concepts: real-time messaging, event-driven architectures, state management, and eventual consistency
  • Product-minded with a focus on user experience
  • Experience building user-facing features, SRE practices, CI/CD pipelines, or infrastructure automation is a plus
  • Experience with fleet management, warehouse automation, industrial automation systems, robotics controls, or hardware-software integration is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Implement and improve job scheduling, vehicle routing, traffic management, and fleet orchestration algorithms in Go
  • Explore and apply AI and ML techniques to improve scheduling, routing, anomaly detection, and operational decision-making
  • Build and maintain integrations with industrial equipment, MES systems, and other internal platforms
  • Contribute to frontend tooling for real-time visibility into fleet status and system health
  • Write comprehensive tests for algorithmic correctness, edge cases, and performance
  • Design and improve observability: metrics, logging, tracing, and dashboards
  • Collaborate with firmware engineers to ensure fleet-level decisions translate to correct vehicle behavior

Benefits

  • Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
