Tesla is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise in HVAC and building systems to join their North America Infrastructure team. The role involves innovative mechanical design, collaboration across functions, and hands-on implementation to support Tesla's R&D initiatives. Candidates will be responsible for delivering scalable and code-compliant mechanical systems that align with Tesla's mission for sustainable energy.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5-7 years of experience in HVAC or Process Systems design
- Familiarity with ASHRAE Handbooks / Standards, SMACNA Standards
- Understanding of mechanical systems including Dehumidification Units, Air Scrubbers, Heat Exchangers, Chillers, and more
- Professional design experience in various project types including industrial cooling tower systems and biotech/pharmaceutical
- Familiarity with International Codes Council (ICC) and California specific Title 24 codes
- Proficient with HVAC load calculation software and design tools like Revit and AutoCAD
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred
Responsibilities
- Apply engineering fundamentals to solve technical problems and create detailed designs
- Combine technical skills with creative design solutions
- Develop detailed specifications and design packages for HVAC, plumbing, and hydronic systems
- Collaborate with design, construction, and facilities stakeholders to meet end-user needs
- Prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
- Work independently and apply first principles thinking to resolve design issues
- Perform capacity and risk analysis for large capital infrastructure
