Job description
Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to design and develop automated manufacturing equipment within their Agile Projects team. The role involves rapid prototyping and proof-of-concept systems, focusing on collaboration across disciplines to enhance battery manufacturing processes.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience
- 6+ years in machine design, robotics, or high-speed automation
- Proven track record of scaling technologies from lab-scale to robust manufacturing assets
- Strong foundation in solid mechanics, dynamics, material selection, and fabrication
- Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks/PDM and Ansys (or similar CAE tools)
- Familiarity with sensors, microcontrollers, and basic electrical/control logic
- Exceptional collaborative ability with Chemical, Electrical, and Software engineers
- Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
- Experience in laser processing or optical equipment design
- Experience with robot programming or PLC integration
Responsibilities
- Develop sophisticated automated test equipment and PoC systems
- Use structural/thermal FEA and CFD to verify designs
- Lead conceptual development by balancing product specs against process requirements
- Identify bottlenecks in existing processes and propose innovative hardware solutions
- Lead the building, debugging, and fine-tuning of equipment
- Execute detailed testing protocols to ensure quality
