Job description

Tesla is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer with expertise in HVAC and building systems to join their North America Infrastructure team in Los Angeles. The role involves innovative mechanical design, collaboration across functions, and hands-on implementation to support Tesla's R&D initiatives in various sectors, including Autopilot and Energy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5-7 years of experience in HVAC or Process Systems design
  • Familiarity with ASHRAE Handbooks / Standards, SMACNA Standards
  • Understanding of mechanical systems including Dehumidification Units, Air Scrubbers, Heat Exchangers, Chillers, and more
  • Professional design experience in various project types including industrial cooling tower systems and biotech/pharmaceutical
  • Familiarity with International Codes Council (ICC) and California specific Title 24 codes
  • Proficient with HVAC load calculation software and design tools like Revit and AutoCAD
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Apply engineering fundamentals to solve technical problems and create detailed designs
  • Combine technical skills with creative design solutions
  • Develop detailed specifications and design packages for HVAC and plumbing systems
  • Collaborate with design, construction, and facilities stakeholders
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Work independently and apply first principles thinking to resolve design issues
  • Perform capacity and risk analysis for large capital infrastructure
