Job description

The Tesla Solar Products team is looking for a Sr. Modeling Engineer to develop thermal, mechanical, and chemical models for solar manufacturing processes. This role involves collaboration with various teams to identify process constraints and improve manufacturing efficiency, contributing to the goal of expanding domestic solar cell manufacturing in the U.S.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of experience in Solar or Semiconductor manufacturing industries
  • Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics
  • CFD Modeling experience and familiarity with CFD tools such as Star-CCM+ or Ansys Fluent
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and CAD software
  • Demonstrable motivation and ability to solve novel, difficult thermal design problems
  • Passion for renewable energy
  • Demonstrated work ethic, integrity, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
  • Willing to travel up to 30%

Responsibilities

  • Build and utilize first-principle analytical models to accelerate design decisions
  • Develop heat transfer and fluid flow models to simulate the growth of single-crystal silicon ingots
  • Model gas flows, plasma dynamics, and film growth of deposition reactors used in solar cell processing
  • Simulate the dynamics of laser processing on the modification of solar cell component films
  • Collaborate with engineering and facilities teams to simulate the impact of process changes on the design of our solar factories
