Job description
The Body Structures team at Tesla is seeking a mechanical engineer to design and develop vehicle structural components, ensuring robustness and compliance with regulations. Requirements
- Ability to have fun in resolving engineering problems
- Ability to thrive with ambiguity in design direction and conditions
- Proven knowledge and application of engineering fundamentals to root cause and solve complex engineering challenges
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Preferred minimum of 1 full development life cycle through design, development, release and launch with substantial system responsibility
- Preferred proficiency in computer aided design software (e.g. CATIA)
Responsibilities
- Design and develop structural components, system requirements and specifications to achieve best-in-class structural, NVH and crash performance from conceptualization to mass production
- Create vehicle-aligned component and system targets for function, cost, weight and investment
- Optimize the concepts and designs with analytical and physical assessments, ensuring conformation to federal regulations governing assigned systems
- Interface with Tesla and Supplier manufacturing to develop components that are optimized for the production environment
- Research on reliability failure physics and apply them to designing accelerated test methods to represent field behaviors
- Take ownership of reliability structural requirements to develop test plans and work internally and externally to ensure the targets are met on schedule
