Job description

Netflix is seeking a Data Engineer to build systems for efficient data processing and analytics. The role involves collaborating with various teams to enhance the user experience and leverage data for decision-making, while working with large distributed systems and big data technologies.

Requirements

  • Proficient in at least one major programming language (e.g. Java, Scala, Python) and comfortable working with SQL
  • Strong background in distributed data processing, software engineering of data services, or data modeling
  • Familiar with big data technologies like Spark or Flink
  • Good data intuition and a passion for data quality
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with business, engineering, and data science teams
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment with ambiguous requirements

Responsibilities

  • Build systems to process data efficiently and model data for analytics
  • Create batch data pipelines and real-time processing services
  • Collaborate with teams to push the boundaries of analytical insights
  • Document processes and maintain data quality
  • Enable a culture of learning through collaboration and feedback

Benefits

  • Employees at Netflix are often offered flexible, people-first benefits—unlimited time away, generous parental leave, global family-forming support, mental-health programs (mindfulness, free counseling/coaching), and health coverage tailored by country. Financially, Netflix pays at personal top-of-market and lets employees choose their mix of cash vs. fully-vested 10-year stock options, alongside donation and volunteer matching. Convenience perks can include trust-based travel/expense policies, relocation support, and “Work, Not Drive” rideshare flexibility.
