Job description
Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to enhance and maintain manufacturing equipment for battery cell production. The role involves collaboration with process engineers and cross-functional teams to develop new parts and processes, ensuring smooth transitions from concept to full production.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of hands-on industry experience in mechanical engineering, equipment engineering, and/or manufacturing engineering
- Experience with battery cell manufacturing, roll to roll manufacturing equipment, automated mechanical assembly, or industrial chemical process equipment
- Experience of new equipment installations and new product startups
- Exposure to test and automation systems, production machinery, industrial sensors, and data acquisition devices
- Experience writing production documentation: SOPs, checklists, flow diagrams
- Experience integrating electrical hardware and software: PLC programming and EtherNET/IP communication
- Mechanical design experience and best practices with SolidWorks is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and an aptitude for learning systems quickly
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and organizational skills
Responsibilities
- Own and account for manufacturing equipment for one or more of cell manufacturing processes
- Lead equipment development to realize new/innovative/improved manufacturing processes from proof of concept through to full scale production
- Drive improvement of equipment effectiveness, manufacturing tolerance, stability, automation, and intelligence
- Conduct DFMEA and Fault Tree analysis to drive robustness into equipment
- Drive equipment acceptance tests and document detailed and verified specifications
- Manage external equipment integrators from equipment development through buyoff
- Create detailed manufacturing instructions to document new processes
