JobsSr. PV Project Development Engineer, Tesla Energy
Job description
Join Tesla Energy as a Senior PV Project Development Engineer, where you'll design utility-scale solar and energy storage solutions. Your work will influence the feasibility of multi-megawatt projects, requiring technical expertise and collaboration with cross-functional teams to drive growth in the solar market.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 5-6 years of experience in utility-scale solar project development, EPC, or owner's engineering
- Expert-level proficiency in PVsyst and HelioScope or RatedPower for energy yield modeling and site layout optimization
- Working knowledge of ETAP or SKM PowerTools for preliminary power flow, short-circuit, and arc flash analysis
- Hands-on experience with interconnection applications and preliminary interconnection studies
- Strong understanding of PV system fundamentals: module/inverter technologies, tracker systems, DC/AC architectures, and performance modeling
- Knowledge of hybrid solar and storage system design, including DC and AC coupling strategies
- Experience with preliminary cost estimation and value engineering during the pre-construction phase
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple concurrent feasibility studies
- Excellent communication skills, capable of presenting technical findings to non-technical stakeholders
Responsibilities
- Design and optimize utility-scale PV plant layouts using industry-leading tools
- Specify and configure PV module/inverter/string architectures, evaluate tracker vs. fixed-tilt systems
- Perform preliminary energy yield modeling and loss analysis using PVsyst, HelioScope, or RatedPower
- Develop high-level electrical single-line diagrams and MV collection system plans
- Design conceptual integration schemes for solar and battery energy storage systems
- Prepare technical documentation and preliminary studies for interconnection applications
- Lead quick-turnaround, bankable feasibility assessments for early-stage projects
- Partner with business development, sales, finance, and construction/deployment teams
- Identify technical and regulatory risks in early-stage designs and propose mitigation strategies
- Stay current on emerging PV technologies and mentor junior engineers
Benefits
- Employees at Tesla are often offered day-one coverage with multiple medical options (some at $0 paycheck cost), dental/vision, company HSA contributions, a 401(k) match, and equity programs. Most roles also include paid time off and holidays, family-building support, employee assistance, commuter and childcare benefits, and access to discounts and wellness programs.
