Job description
As a Controls Software Engineer at Tesla's Gigafactory Austin, you will design, implement, and maintain control systems for utilities and building systems that support manufacturing. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize control systems for efficiency, reliability, and safety, while driving initiatives for energy efficiency and sustainability.
Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in control systems design, implementation, and maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting
- Very strong programming knowledge of PLCs and HMIs in Siemens TIA Portal
- Knowledge of programming SCADA systems, preferably Ignition
- Familiarity with industry-standard control system protocols such as Profinet, Modbus, RS232/485, BACnet
- Strong experience with high-level programming languages such as C++, Python or Java
- Solid understanding of sensors and their underlying working principles
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and deadlines
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement control systems for utility and building systems that support all production facilities and infrastructure
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify problems or improvements
- Define control system requirements and work out implementation strategies based on them
- Write and maintain detailed documentation of control systems, including schematics, diagrams, and technical specifications
- Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues, including debugging and repairing faulty systems
- Drive the development and implementation of energy efficiency, sustainability, and reliability initiatives
